Best point about the Stephen King book: just letting it come.
I’ve been trying to figure out what the ‘situation’ is in my new short story. But reading some of King’s nuts and bolts of writing, he reminded me that you can’t force things. Start with the character and it will come.
I have the place and the character but I was caught up with what was going to ‘happen’ that I forgot to just explore the character and she’ll tell me what’s happening. So I’m doing a lot of free writing, long hand, which I haven’t done for a couple years. And it’s very satisfying.
